Die Kategorie bezeichnet also immer eine einzelne Komponente eines \u00dcbertragungskanales.<br\/><br\/>Im hier beschriebenen Fall die Kabel, es k\u00f6nnen aber z.B. auch die Anschlussdosen oder Stecker und Buchsen sein, die Klasse hingegen den gesamten Kanal. Oberhalb der Klasse F sind noch die Klasse G mit den Unterklassen I und II und analog dazu die Verkabelungskategorien 8, 8.1 und 8.2 definiert. F\u00fcr moderne Verkabelungen sind diese ab der Klasse D bzw. Sie k\u00f6nnen Frequenzen bis 100MHz \u00fcbertragen und werden unterschieden in Cat.5 und Cat.5e. W\u00e4hrend Cat.5 zwar Fast Ethernet mit 100Mbit\/s unterst\u00fctzte, f\u00fcr Gigabit-Ethernet jedoch nicht mehr geeignet war und damit vom Markt verschwand, entstand mit Cat.5e ein in den NeXT- und FeXT-Werten verbesserter Kabel-Standard, der f\u00fcr 1000BASE-T-Netzwerke verwendet werden kann. EA und werden demzufolge auch unterschieden in Cat.6 und Cat.6A (Cat.6 augmented) f\u00fcr die \u00dcbertragung von Frequenzen bis 250 bzw. 500MHz. Cat.6-Kabel werden \u00fcberwiegend in Datennetzen mit multimedialen Anwendungen mit hoher Netzlast verwendet. Um den h\u00f6heren Bandbreitenanforderungen f\u00fcr 10 Gigabit-Ethernet gerecht zu werden, wurde mit Cat.6A die Kategorie f\u00fcr Frequenzen bis 500MHz \u00fcber maximal 100m geschaffen. Definiert f\u00fcr Betriebsfrequenzen bis 600 bzw. 1000MHz ist diese Kategorie darauf angewiesen, in ihrem Kabelaufbau mit 4 einzeln geschirmten Paaren und einem Gesamtschirm ausgef\u00fchrt zu sein. Durch die so verbesserte Schirmung sind die Kabel dieser Kategorie gut f\u00fcr k\u00fcnftige Entwicklungen ger\u00fcstet. Erstmalig wurden mit Cat.7 neue Steckverbinder in die Norm aufgenommen, der zu RJ45 abw\u00e4rtskompatible Nexans GG45 und der vollgeschirmte TERA-Steckverbinder von Siemon. Cat.8 ist ausgelegt f\u00fcr eine Betriebsfrequenz von maximal 2000MHz. Die Kabel dieser Kategorie sind geeignet f\u00fcr die neuesten Ethernet-Standards 25GBASE-T, 40GBASE-T und 100GBASE-T.
