As the Smart City concept continues to evolve, the networked home, Smart Home and its technology are increasingly becoming the common standard in residential buildings. This not only involves the control and switching of lighting, shutters, windows and doors, but also the monitoring of these processes on displays distributed throughout the building, as well as the routing, control and distribution of the necessary high resolution AV content itself. Multiple displays distributed across different rooms, powered by a multitude of different sources, require an AV control centre to ensure effective and seamless control for the user.
This solution uses the 12 Slot Seamless Modular Matrix as a central switching and management unit for all AV content up to 4k 60Hz as well as individual HDBaseT transmitters and receivers. The matrix switch can be equipped with up to 12 different input and output boards.
In this scenario, it is equipped with one HDBaseT and 2 HDMI inputs as well as 4 HDBaseT outputs and one local HDMI output. By using HDBaseT boards, expensive AV cables do not have to be laid in excess length throughout the house, but rather cost-effective Cat. cables can be used instead. The separate HDBaseT receivers or transmitters are then used on site to decode or encode the HDBaseT stream.
The audio data can either be embedded in the HDM or HDBaseT data stream or – e.g. via S/PDIF output – separately fed to the home theatre. The system is configured and administered via Ethernet and WebGUI from computers available in the home network.
The modular matrix switch can be flexibly adapted to the requirements of its intended use by individually equipping it with up to 12 HDMI or HDBaseT input or output boards. From one input and eleven outputs to eleven inputs and one output, every conceivable combination is possible.
The HDMI boards support 18G resolutions up to 4096×2160@60Hz 4:4:4 8Bit, the HDBaseT boards according to HDBaseT specification 10.2G resolutions up to 4096×2160@60Hz 4:2:0 8Bit or 4096×2160@30Hz 4:4:4 8Bit. If at least Cat 6A cables are used for the HDBaseT transmissions, then up to 100m distance can be bridged, when using Cat.5e or Cat.6 cables it is 70m. Audio signals can either be sent to the inputs with the standard HDMI or HDBaseT stream, or as separate audio signals, which are then embedded in the internal AV data stream of the device in the input board. In the same way, they can be decoupled again at the outputs up to PCM 2.0 or sent embedded to the display or the HDBaseT receiver. For the transmission of copy-protected content, the switch supports HDCP 2.2. All HDBaseT ports support PoH, i.e. they can supply PoH-capable HDBaseT transmitters or receivers with power via the connecting Cat. cable.
